Elisa Apo and Jamie Gausnell started their My Gluten Free World Expo event 10 years ago out of need — theirs — to find grocery stores or restaurants that would sell or serve food safe for those with autoimmune conditions.
This year’s expo at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy was its largest yet, showing both the growth in popularity and increased need for gluten-free products. More than 100 vendors showcased their products or services at this year’s expo, which Jamie Gausnell said is the largest of its kind in the country.
“Having spent the last 10 years searching out gluten-friendly restaurants, hopping from one specialty grocery store to the next week after week, and joining online blogs and forums, we finally realized that we could showcase the very best of gluten-free in just one day,” the founders wrote on their website.
Among those at the event Sept. 25-26 were Amber’s Bee’s Honey Butter, Blue Unicorn, Cassavaberry, Cosmic Pig BBQ, Farm Creek Meats, Franz Bakery, Gluten Free Meister, Good Hope Bakery, Granola Girl, Heber Valley Cheese, Hungry Hawaiian, King Arthur Baking Co., Mom’s Place Gluten Free, Mrs. Hewitt’s, Nastysnax, Queen Street Bakery, Redstone Olive Oil, Senor Smokes, The Happy Chick food truck, The Nut Hut, Tsunami Restaurant and Sushi, Uncle Bob’s Butter Country and Via 313.
